What if my shipment arrives damaged?

If your shipment arrives damaged, email us at support@earlsgonewild.com. Please include photos of the damaged box and/or products, along with a phone number where we can contact you. This will help us to make a claim with the shipping company and get a replacement shipment sent out to you. We really hate it when shippers damage your orders! It happens sometimes though. And when it does, we typically send out a replacement for you right away!

How spicy are your products?

Spicy food tolerance is very subjective. In general, our products are not as spicy as you might think.

If you’re super sensitive to spicy food and you generally avoid it, you might do okay with our Jalapeño Jam (yes, really), but the rest of our products will probably not work for you.

On the other hand, if you’re a pepper head and super spicy food lover (Vindaloo curry or whole peppers as a garnish), you might not find our Habanero Jam spicy at all. And our Habanero BBQ Sauce might disappoint you as well if the big heat is what you’re looking for.

We use peppers a part of the overall flavor package, and we don’t use pepper extracts or concentrates like many “shock” hot sauce makers use. While we do like spicy food at Earl’s Gone Wild, flavor comes first. We design our recipes to reflect that.

Are your products gluten free?

There are no gluten-containing ingredients in our products. If you’re wondering why our labels do not claim gluten free status, this claim is heavily regulated and certification costs money. We thought we’d let our ingredient labels speak for themselves rather than pay extra for the official certification.

How do you use the pepper jams?

The most popular use of pepper jams is to pair them with cream cheese and crackers or bread. Any of your favorite cheeses will work wonderfully as well. They are also great as a condiment on sandwiches or burgers, a dipping sauce for fried foods, or as a glaze for barbecuing or baking. There are no rules!

Do the jams need to be refrigerated after opening?

In the rare occasion that you have any jam left in the jar that you haven’t eaten, no. Refrigeration is optional as long as the jams are kept clean and uncontaminated by other foods. They can be stored at room tempurature, preferably in a cool dark pantry. Always use a clean, dedicated utensil for your jams.

If you do decide to refrigerate them, you may get some crystallization of the sugars in the jams. This will show up as a translucent white layer over the top of the jam. This is not dangerous or harmful, but it can be avoided by storing at room temperature.

I think there is mold on my jam. What do I do?

If you put your jams in the refrigerator, you may get some crystallization of the sugars in the jam. This is often mistaken for mold. It will show up as a translucent white layer over the top of the jam. This is not dangerous or harmful, but it can be avoided by storing your jams at room temperature.

If it does not look like a translucent white layer over the top of the jam, it may be mold. This is rare, unless the jam was cross contaminated with other foods. In this case, use your best judgement, and avoid eating it if you’re not sure.

My sauce looks separated, and the cap is thick and nearly black in color. Is something wrong?

Most modern, shelf-stable products on the market today use added stabilizers to prevent their ingredients from separating. These stabilizers also have the added benefit of making these products cheaper to produce. For example, they can make a very thin sauce appear thicker, allowing for the use of more water in the recipe.  We decided early on that we wanted to make our products as close to they way we make them at home as possible. We didn’t use stabilizers at home, so we don’t use them now. So, you may experience some separation. That’s okay though, just shake it like crazy!

(Popular stabilizers include Carrageenan, Guar Gum, Cellulose Gum, and Locust Bean Gum. We don't use them.)

I am allergic to peanuts. Are your products safe for me to eat?

Our contract packing facility does not process peanuts. It is also a HACCP approved facility which adheres to strict guidelines for cleaning equipment between production cooks. However, it does process some products with soy ingredients.

This is such a consequential subject that we do not make any guarantees of safety when it comes to food allergies. Please use your best judgement based on this information and our ingredient labels.

Do you have any sugar-free products?

Unfortunately, we do not have sugar-free versions of our sauces or jams. We are working on some new products that don’t have sugar in them though. Stay tuned!
